Providing the highest quality health care for Veterans while encouraging them to take an active role in their care is a critical component of VA’s Patient Centered Care model. It is also the basis for the recent town hall meeting that engaged Veterans to learn first-hand how to improve health care for America’s heroes.
“The town hall was an excellent forum to dialogue face-to-face with our Veterans so we may best understand their needs and continuously improve our health care programs and services,” said Medical Center Director Rebecca Wiley. Some 50 Veterans along with representatives of Veterans Service Organizations participated in the town hall held at the York County Government Complex on April 11 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
At the meeting numerous topics were addressed including parking area capacity, the size of the waiting room, walk-in procedures, staff communications, and more.
“Hearing directly from Veterans is important to them and very important to us,” said Associate Director for Patient Care and Nursing Services Ruth Mustard. “Through their interaction with VA staff and forums such as this town hall we learn more about innovative ways to improve our VA health care.”
The Dorn VA Medical Center serves more than 70,000 Veterans annually and provides care through the main hospital in Columbia and seven community based outpatient clinics in Anderson, Florence, Greenville, Orangeburg, Rock Hill, Spartanburg, and Sumter.
