Veterans' Town Hall planned for Spartanburg area

A Veteran’s Town Hall meeting is scheduled for April 25 for Veterans living in the Spartanburg area. The event is scheduled from 10 to 11:30 p.m. in the National Guard Armory/University Readiness Center at 301 North Campus Blvd. in Spartanburg.

Leadership and representatives from the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, the Veteran Benefit s Administration’s Regional Office as well as staff from the Orangeburg Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will be available to provide updates about Dorn VA Medical Center and its outpatient clinics, improvements of patient care and nursing services, and Veterans benefits in general.

VA to host nationwide "Baby Shower" for Mother's Days
To honor and support Veterans welcoming new children into their families in 2018, 60 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers (VAMC) around the country will host baby showers between May 5-16, the weeks surrounding Mother’s Day, in partnership with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.

Helping Veterans respond to an opiod overdose
In 2016, more than 46 people died every day from overdoses involving prescription opioids.  Today, 40 percent of all U.S. opioid overdose deaths involve a prescription opioid.

Debunking the VA privatization myth
There is no effort underway to privatize VA and to suggest otherwise is completely false and a red herring designed to distract and avoid honest debate on the real issues surrounding Veterans’ health care.

VA seeks artist to design National Veteran's Day poster
The 2018 National Veterans Day Poster Contest is underway. Each year the Veterans Day National Committee publishes a commemorative Veterans Day poster. The poster is selected from artwork submitted by artists nationwide and is distributed to VA facilities, military installations around the world across cities and town in our nation. 

Applications accepted for National Veterans Wheelchair games
The Department of Veterans Affairs is accepting applications for the 2018 National Veterans Wheelchair Games. Registration began January 2 and will close April 15, 2018. Applications can be completed online at www.wheelchairgames.org. The 2018 National Veterans Wheelchair Games will take place in Orlando, Florida from July 30 – Aug 4.
