Dorn VAMC responds to local train derailment

The William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, S.C., provided local medical assistance today when a collision occurred between a freight train and an Amtrak passenger train around 4 a.m.

Two fatalities were reported at the scene.

Of the 116 passengers injured, 12 of them were received in the medical center, one of which is a Veteran. Eight of them have been released, one was transported to a local hospital for further care, while the others will be released soon.

The director and staff of the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VAMC extends sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

As a 24-hour medical facility, no impact has been hindered to Veteran patient care who continue to need medical assistance.

Dorn VAMC does not expect any more passengers and the team remains in close communication with leadership on the ground of the incident to ensure all community needs are successfully met.
