Columbia VA Health Care System

Volunteer or Donate

The Columbia VA Health Care System depends on the goodwill of our benefactors and volunteers who wish to give something back to America's heroes.

Volunteers provide many important functions throughout the organization and help make our patients' stay more enjoyable. Volunteers can perform a number of services, and a volunteer's talents are closely matched with one of our many assignments.

To volunteer, call or visit the Columbia VA Health Care System Voluntary Service Office at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia; or call (803) 776-4000 extension 6780. We will be happy to receive your application or discuss how you can help us in our mission to provide comfort and care to America's veterans.

Through our Veterans Transportation Network (VTN) program, volunteers drive patients to the medical center for scheduled medical appointments. For more information visit the VTN page or to reserve a seat on the van call the Hospital Service Coordinator at:

  • Columbia VA Medical Center: 803-776-4000, ext. 7199
  • Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson: 846-299-1600, ext. 2962

Cash donations are used for the comfort and welfare of our veteran patients, including —

  • hygiene products
  • refreshment supplies
  • recreational activities

Non-cash contributions are used to make our patients' stay more enjoyable.

Items which are accepted include —

  • magazines
  • coffee and cookies
  • new sweat suits, t-shirts and socks
  • telephone cards

To make a cash or non-cash contribution, please contact the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, Voluntary Service at telephone (803) 776-4000 extension 6780.

E-Donate allows community members who wish to give back to Veterans a quick, safe way to pledge their support. Through E-Donate, donors can select from a number of accounts at the medical center they can donate. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs administrative costs are appropriated so donors can be 100 percent certain their donations will go directly to the funds and Veteran patients they select.

Money donated to the Columbia VAHCS goes to providing clothing, personal comfort items, special holiday events and replacement vans for our Veterans transportation needs. Donations are made through a secure site at the Department of Treasury. A $5 minimum is required for online donations. Donations can be made using a credit card or debit card. Please click on the E-Donate button to participate.
